Carolyn's statement
My first relationship with photography began when I was about 9 years old
and discovered my big sister’s abandoned, beat up Brownie camera. With this
I found a way to capture and record an instant frozen in time. At 16
I took a darkroom class and as I witnessed the image slowly forming in the developing tray for the first time, I was hooked..
I have always felt the need to express myself and record moments of discovery, the small details around me, the way the light falls and forms around a subject. Both life in its glory and in its mundane. It is often in capturing that moment unique in space and time that I hope to share the things we sometimes forget to notice. My goal is to bring the viewer the joy and fascination that can come from encountering life in all its simplicity
and in all its complexity.
Carolyn makes her home in the Pacific Northwest. She loves to travel whether it’s a road trip across the state line or an excursion to another continent. She studied photography at The Evergreen State College where she earned a degree in Visual Communications.
